La FDA Aprueba Píldora Para La Depresión Posparto
A pill for postpartum depression is finally approved! When I became a mother, postpartum depression hit me hard, but I didn’t even know what that was. So I had to deal with it until I slowly got over it. Many mothers feel bad for feeling what they feel and suffer in silence. That is why knowing that there is already a pill approved by the FDA makes me quite happy since this is a condition that affects about 400,000 mothers a year . This was published by WFLA.
Although postpartum depression usually lasts a few weeks, there have been cases of mothers suffering from it for months and even years. The good news is that on Friday, the Food and Drug Administration granted approval for the drug Zurzuvae for adults experiencing severe depression related to childbirth or pregnancy. The pill is taken once a day for 14 days.
As published by WFLA, the FDA approval of the pill is based on two company studies that showed that women who took Zurzuvae had fewer signs of depression over a period of four to six weeks compared to those who received a dummy pill. The benefits, measured by a psychiatric test, appeared within three days for many patients.
I suffered from it during the first 3 months of my first child, even though I didn’t know what it was, I can clearly remember how difficult those days were for me. So if you are going through this, talk to your doctor to see if the pill for postpartum depression is right for you.
