Haven in South Tampa will serve its last meal on May 21. Bern's Steak House Group plans to replace the Morrison Avenue spot with a new seafood concept called Peddler + Potter Oyster House. The new oyster house won't open until fall 2027.
Service at the Hyde Park spot continues as usual through the closing date. The restaurant group called the closure the end of "a successful and well-loved run."
Executive Chef Chad Johnson said the timing was right to close Haven and move forward with a new concept at 2208 W Morrison Ave. The decision came after months of planning.
"As we looked at the long-term future of the property, it became clear this was the right moment to bring Peddler + Potter to life, a concept I've been developing for years," Johnson said in a press release, per Patch. "It's a bittersweet moment for many of us, as Haven has been home to so many incredible memories and played such an important role in shaping how we think about food and hospitality."
The chef has been working on this new concept for years. Johnson ran Haven during its run in the Hyde Park area.
Peddler + Potter Oyster House will feature a seafood menu that changes daily based on what's available. A raw bar with Florida oysters will serve as a focal point, with the rest of the offerings focused on the ingredients in each dish. Freshness drives the menu.
The beverage program will build on the foundation Bern's Steak House created. An extensive wine list will pair with the seafood menu.
The layout features an open kitchen designed to show transparency in sourcing and preparation. The space includes a custom-built hearth from Grills by Demant. A Montague range will anchor the cooking area.
Kimmich Smith Architecture, JAI The Collective, TBCI Design, Nelson Construction, and Vers Creative are working on the project. Multiple teams collaborate to bring the vision to life.
Many members of the current team will stay with Bern's Steak House Group in other roles after the closure.
