Record Store Day arrives Saturday, April 18, at independent music shops across St. Petersburg and Tampa.
According to I Love the Burg, three area stores have planned live performances, vendor markets, and limited-edition vinyl releases.
Banana Records in St. Pete will host local acts Dames, Kneedz, April Showers, Little Giver, and Spanish Needles from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Vendors will set up shop. Brue Boy brings a pop-up coffee cart, while Bellies Street food handles the eats. The store announces exclusive vinyl titles April 17, though no holds or pre-orders are permitted.
Daddy Kool Records will host one of the area's biggest events at The Factory St. Pete, opening doors at 8 a.m. Live music kicks off at 3:30 p.m. with Florida, Beach Terror, and April Showers taking the stage. Lou Gramm appears for a signing at 2 p.m. An outdoor yard sale begins at 1 p.m. Food and drinks flow throughout the day. Admission costs nothing.
MOJO Books & Records in Tampa opens from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for collectors hunting official releases. The shop stocks most official titles, often in larger quantities than competitors. All sales happen in-person. Customers can snag one per title on exclusives.
Vinyl has grown in the region as more venues add records into their spaces. The annual event brings together collectors and music fans for in-person shopping at local shops.
High-demand items may vanish fast at all three locations. Banana Records expects steady crowds throughout the day rather than just early morning rushes. MOJO Books & Records will still have remaining inventory later for those who show up after opening.
All three stores offer first-come, first-served sales on exclusive titles, with no pre-orders or holds accepted at any location.
