Clearwater Police will fight speeding and reckless drivers using a $75,000 grant from the Florida Department of Transportation. The contract began Dec. 17, 2025. It runs through Sept. 30, 2026.
Officers will work extra shifts to catch speeders on roads known for dangerous driving. More patrols will saturate trouble spots.
Several roads will see beefed-up enforcement: U.S. 19, the Courtney Campbell Causeway, Drew Street, State Road 580, Belcher Road, and Missouri Avenue. The city wants to reduce risky driving on these busy streets, according to Fox13 News.
The grant pays officers overtime so they can concentrate on traffic violations. This lets the department maintain regular patrols while flooding problem roads with additional coverage.
Both speeding and reckless driving are targets. Officers will stop violations that cause crashes or endanger other drivers. Florida's Department of Transportation funds similar programs statewide, helping local police tackle traffic safety problems in their areas.
This contract continues an earlier department effort to reduce speeding. The money allows consistent enforcement over 10 months.
