Two Tampa Bay Bakeries Earn Spot in DoorDash’s Top 50 U.S. Dessert Shops

Gretchen's Goodies in Riverview and Moreno Bakery in Brandon made DoorDash's first-ever Top 50 list for local bakeries and dessert shops across America. DoorDash dropped the rankings on Dec. 12, 2025.

DoorDash sifted through its network and order volume to pinpoint shops with the best average customer ratings nationwide. To qualify, businesses needed fewer than 10 locations and at least 500 customer reviews. Data spanned Jan. 1 through Oct. 31 this year.

The list isn't ranked from 1 to 50. Shops that made it had top ratings while hitting the location and review thresholds. National chains didn't get considered.

Couples run both businesses, each opening their own storefronts. You'll find Gretchen's Goodies at 10039 Gibsonton Drive in Riverview. Moreno Bakery sits at 737 W. Brandon Blvd. in Brandon.

Jose Bruno, the baker at Moreno Bakery, started at La Segunda. Now crowds line up each day for his fresh-baked Cuban bread. That smell alone brings them in.

Gretchen, who runs the kitchen at Gretchen's Goodies, works with family recipes handed down through generations. Her shop turns out a wide variety of baked treats based on those old recipes.

This recognition arrives during the holiday season when bakery demand climbs. Both shops built their reputations through consistent quality and strong customer service over time.

The selection process targeted small businesses rather than big chains. This gave local operators a shot to compete on a national stage based purely on what customers thought.
