A developer wants to construct a 70-story skyscraper in Tampa. The building would stretch 740 feet into the air. It would claim the title of the city's tallest structure, surpassing the 42-story 100 North Tampa building by 161 feet.
Colton Elliott heads the project for Elliott International. He doesn't own the construction site yet. Talks with property owners continue, and he anticipates securing the land during the first quarter of 2026.
"We are currently in talks with the owners of acquiring those properties," said Elliott, according to FOX 13. "So, we don't have it acquired yet. We're looking at Q1 2026 to acquire."
The proposed tower will combine multiple uses within its floors. Two floors will house retail shops. Ten will serve as parking. Fifteen floors will provide office space, while eight will contain hotel rooms. The top 35 floors? Private residences for those who can afford them.
Elliott has secured $40 million in funding. That leaves $650 million still needed. He's hunting for the rest.
"We're in talks right now with private equity, and we might be able to raise the $650 million without even having debt financing, or to be able to have to use buyer deposits," Elliott said. "So we're still very early stages."
Tampa's rapid expansion drives the project, according to the developer. He believes the metro area ranks among the fastest-growing he's witnessed.
"Tampa is becoming the new Miami, so to say," Elliott said. "And we believe that now is the time. It's really a now or never situation."
Elliott has pursued a goal for years: designing and constructing high-rise buildings. He prefers mixed-use structures that blend retail, office, and living spaces. The tower, if built, would likely hold its height record for many years.
The timeline targets a contract by early 2026. Construction is estimated to start in late 2027 or early 2028. AI-generated concept images have drawn attention throughout the region, though approvals remain outstanding.
