Hurricane Elsa Friday Morning Updates From Tampa Weather Forecasters
As Elsa approaches, it’ll be important to keep an eye on its track and Tampa forecasters say it’s still too soon to tell how much of an impact it’ll have on Tampa Bay. Bay News 9 reports sustained winds are now at 75 miles per hour in Barbados. That means it has been upgraded from a Tropical Storm to Hurricane Elsa. Elsa is the Atlantic’s first hurricane of the season.
Denis Phillips from ABC Action News: “GFS continues to trend a bit more to the West (Panhandle this time) while Euro dissipates Elsa in the islands. The margin of error down the road (as it COULD approach Florida) is over 600 miles. Just too soon to determine any possible impacts on our area. I suspect we won’t know for sure until this weekend.”
Greg Dee: “Wind gust in Barbados reported to 106 mph as Elsa moves by.”
Ric Kearbey: “Hurricane Elsa continues to have a forecast cone that puts Tampa Bay in its potential path. Still a long way to go and that cone can certainly still shift around. Also, the storm could be far east or west in the cone, giving Tampa Bay less of an impact.”
National Weather Service: “At this time there is still a large amount of uncertainty in the track as it heads towards a potential impact with Florida. However, everyone in Florida should monitor this system closely.”
